SAURON is inspired by the solar system and the eye of Sauron in The Lord of the Rings which is one of my favourite movies. The reason it is numbered NGC 7293 is that the colour and shape of NGC 7293 Helix Nebula like a single eye. The two wooden balls are moving around the center, which like planets orbit around the sun. A complicated aperture mechanism, which is laser cut, is hidden inside of the dynamic illumination. The aperture mechanism replaces the function of the dimmer. Users can move the “planet” (only one hand touch) to control the size of the iris in the middle and adjust the intensity of light. Planets can stop anywhere on the orbit (slot), which is playful. The dark wood appearance works well with the warm LED light and the magnetic back access allowed users to change the LED.
